Shonda Rhimes: Year of Yes
I had the pleasure of attending the Shonda Rhimes Conversation with Robin Robert’s and they BOTH dropped some major gems.
I had purchased my ticket about 2 months in advance because I was so excited to see one of the women I admire speak about how she how to where she is. Shonda spoke about major milestones from her childhood all the way to present day, it was a very vulnerable and open conversation that gave me a different understanding of her journey.
Like all of us, she spoke of feeling unusual compared to other kids and had always had a mind based in storytelling form. She as a child hid in kitchen cupboards, narrating all characters, canned goods, in her selected production of the day. That reminded me of my own tint tot productions in the backyard of my childhood home.
Her feeling that she shouldn’t or didn’t deserve to do ALL the extra or other things and just to keep hr head down and work was something I never expected. This mindset was burned to a crisp after a conversation with her sister, it was then that she decided to be BIG and say yes to ALL THE THINGS. And once she started saying yes everything began to change in ways she never expected.
Is it your yer of yes? Is it mine??? I guess we’ll have to take one yes at a time.
