Detective December: Prank Joke=Murder?
One practical joke goes wrong, TERRIBLY wrong!
Hey Lovies!
It’s December—last month of the year! Yeah, I can’t believe it’s already the end of the year either. I have been kind of overwhelmed the last few months, had a vent filled September and October followed by a work heavy but life light November—so no BOMs. But I’m resurrecting it this month with one of my FAVORITE authors.
Now I know you’re probably thinking the selection will be holiday themed but nope not going to be that predictable. This time I’m choosing a book-to-screen adaptation—a limited series to be exact. Yup, you heard, well read, me right—this month’s book is going to be adapted into a 3-part limited series on Netflix next month!!!
This month’s book is the Seven Dials Mystery by Agatha Christie
The Seven Dials Mystery published in 1929 is a detective novel about a prank gone wrong . It has been adapted to screen before this upcoming Netflix limited series. It was adapted by London Weekend Television as a television film airing in March 1981 in the UK and April 1981 in the US. I may just watch the 1981 adaptation a few days before the Netflix premiere and discuss the two pieces.
Here’s a brief overview:
A practical joke goes chillingly, murderously wrong and Superintendent Battle is on the case.
Gerry Wade had proved himself to be a champion sleeper, so the other house guests decided to play a practical joke on him. Eight alarm clocks were set to go off, one after the other, starting at 6:30 a.m. But when morning arrived, one clock was missing and the prank had backfired, with tragic consequences.
For Jimmy Thesiger in particular, the words “Seven Dials” were to take on a new and chilling significance....
Seven Dials will be premiering January 15th on Netflix, with Mia McKenna-Bruce taking on the role of Lady Eileen Brent.
